Nevada Museum of Art

The Nevada Museum of Art

The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno is the state's only accredited art museum, with a permanent collection that includes nearly 2,000 works of art. The museum, which is also the oldest cultural institution in Nevada, was founded in 1931 as the Nevada Art Gallery.

The collection at the Nevada Museum of Art is divided into five sections with a general theme of land and environment, which is intended to reflect the community's growing interest in the protection of the surrounding landscape. The Altered Landscape is the museum's newest and largest focus collection, with nearly 600 pieces of contemporary landscape photos that focus on the evolution of the 1970s New Topographics tradition over the last 40 years.

In addition to its permanent and temporary exhibits, the Nevada Museum of Art offers an interactive educational gallery known as the Nell J. Redfield Discovery Center. The center's engaging activities and tools are intended to enhance visitors' experiences at the museum by helping them better appreciate its art.

Burning Man

What Is Burning Man?

Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.

Trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.

Burning Man

The impact of the Burning Man experience has been so profound that a culture has formed around it. This culture pushes the limits of Burning Man and has led to people banding together nation-wide, and putting on their own events, in attempt to rekindle that magic feeling that only being part of this community can provide.

The playa is a tabula rasa, a blank canvas upon which many a fantastic vision has been realized. Submarines, gigantic ducks, swimmers, fire-breathing thistles, serpents, chandeliers, grandfather clocks and balsa wood temples have emerged from the playa.
